For over a century, these postcards have traveled through time. Today, I give them a second life.
There is something magical about an old postcard. That small rectangle of cardboard has traveled through time, carried a message, passed through hands that are no longer here. Holding one, you touch a fragment of ordinary history — and that is precisely what makes it extraordinary.
For years, I have been collecting these silent witnesses of a bygone era: views of vanished villages, scenes from the Belle Époque, snapshots of anonymous lives. My collection holds between 2,000 and 3,000 cards — mostly French, but also around fifty from the United States — and I add to it regularly.
But collecting wasn’t enough. I wanted to breathe new life into these images, so often worn by time. I scan, restore, and colorize each card to present it in three versions: the original, just as it has come down to us; the restored version, freed from scratches and the marks of passing time; and the colorized version, which gives them an almost living presence. For this work, I use three tools: GIMP, Pixelmator Pro, and Topaz Photo.
I am not a professional photo editor — this is, above all, a passion. My only wish is to share these images with those who might find something of their own in them: a village remembered, a familiar landscape, a corner of memory.
Enjoy your visit — and welcome to the world of deltiology.
P.S. — A few words about the process, in full transparency.
In June 2026, I scanned around fifty postcards and took the opportunity to share a few observations.
For the texts accompanying each card, I used an artificial intelligence, Claude to name it. I cannot always verify that each description accurately matches the card in question, so I ask for your understanding if any inaccuracies slip through.
I also found that AI recolorization produces disappointing results on cards that were already in color or hand-colored at the time. I will therefore not offer a recolorized version for those cards.
Finally, I am currently scanning one card per day. If the site interests you, come back in a few months: new cards will be waiting for you.
